This Excursion to Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate will take you through the spectacular mountainous, desert, and fortified landscapes with kasbahs. It is a round trip route on the same day departing from Marrakech, crossing the interior of the Atlas until reaching the port of Tichka. You will discover imposing buildings, such as the ancient palace known as the Lord of the Atlas, or the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, one of the largest and best-preserved in Morocco.
The two main places to visit on this excursion, Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou, are attractive from different points of view. As regards the city of Ouarzazate, often known as the gateway to the desert, we will discover a place that is well prepared for tourism and relatively modern, since its foundation dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. However, it has points of interest, such as its Central Market, its handicraft souk, or Al Mouahidine square. And of course, its Atlas film studios, with mythical sets from the history of the Seventh Cinema, which can be visited.
As for the visit to Ait Ben Haddou, which is located in the surroundings of Ouarzazate, you will enjoy getting to know a fortress that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and in which various renowned films such as Lawrence of Arabia have also been filmed. or Babel.
This is the last place to visit on the tour of Ouarzazate and its surroundings, although we will also stop at other points beforehand, especially in the first part of the trip: for example, the Tichka pass, the highest in the country. We will also have the opportunity to visit the famous Kasbah of Telouet or Kasbah of Glaoui, the former palace of the mythical El Hadj Thami El Mezouari el Glaoui, known as the Lord of Atlas.
In order to get to know all the places on this excursion to Ouarzazate and its surroundings insufficient time, the departure time of the route will be at 7:30 a.m., at which time our driver-guide will pick you up at the hotel or at any other indicated place. Approximately four hours later we will be crowning the Tiz’n ́Tichka pass, the highest mountain pass in the entire country, after previously enjoying its spectacular mountain landscapes.
The next point of interest on the route is the Kasbah of Telouet or Kasbah of Glaoui, where we will stop for your visit. We will arrive in Ouarzazate around 11:30 a.m., continuing to Ait Ben Haddou, a jewel that we will discover around lunchtime. After that, we will visit the town located next to the kasbah and, in the early afternoon, we will start the trip back to Marrakech, crossing the Atlas Mountains again and arriving at the hotel at sunset.
