Here’s a fantastic 7-day vacation from Tangier to Marrakech that includes a camel ride and camping under the stars in the middle of nowhere in the Merzouga Sahara desert (Erg Chebbi dunes). Meet new people while exploring gorges, palm groves, and historic kasbahs. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Morocco through the eyes of its inhabitants.
Spend a week in Morocco and get inspired by this suggested itinerary. Morocco has a lot to offer, from historic medinas and high-altitude mountain passes to huge sand dunes and starry skies in the desert.
Our guide will meet you at Tangier’s airport or port, and we’ll begin our 7-day journey from Tangier to Marrakech by passing through various gorgeous places, including Chefchaouen, or Chaouen as it’s often known. Located in the world’s only transcontinental natural park that has been designated as a biosphere reserve.
It’s a town painted white and blue on the slope of a mountain, filled by friendly and courteous people who offer visitors stunning urban landscapes, valuable sampling of local crafts, calm and tranquillity that is rare to find in other parts of the world nowadays. At the Riad, you’ll have dinner and spend the night.
We’ll bid farewell to Chefchaouen’s rich world and go to Fez, one of the imperial cities that is proud to be home to one of the world’s oldest universities. We’ll stop along the trip to see the well-preserved Roman ruins of Volubilis.
We will also be able to see a panoramic view of Moulay Idriss, the holy city where we will have lunch and in the afternoon we will arrive in Fez to enjoy the sunset while we visit the walls and doors of their medina or simply to drink the welcome tea from the Terrace of the Riad. The Riad provides dinner and lodging.
We begin our guided tour of the medina, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, after a hearty breakfast in the Riad. Its convoluted lanes, which are organized by guilds of potters and dyers, and the activity of its inhabitants will take you back in time centuries. We will note that it is a medieval city and that time has stopped at the clock » la Magana Bounania » which was built 1200 years ago.
What a beauty! We’ll pass through Ifrane, a residential city not far from Fez, on our way to the Middle Atlas cedar trees. Dinner and lodging in a hotel
When the road of the High Atlas crossed, and we neared the big south desert, we entered a different landscape. The land becomes arid, with beautiful geological formations and deep valleys, such as the Ziz Valley is a large green spot in the desert. We’ll start by looking at some mud buildings, palm trees, and distant kasbahs. We’ve arrived at the desert’s entrance at Merzouga’s magnificent dunes, Erg Chebbi desert.
Where we will swap cars for animal traction » Dromedaries » and go deep into the desert to witness a spectacular sunset. We will arrive at the camp with the dromedaries and dwell in tents similar to those used by desert nomads « Shops built of dromedary wool ». Dinner and a night spent in the middle of the desert under a canopy of stars. With the sound of drums and a campfire nearby.
Return to the hotel after the sunrise show. We must bid the desert farewell and depart for Rissani after a shower and a hearty breakfast. (This town is appealing because of its surroundings as well as its history.) It is regarded as the descendant of the legendary Sijilmassa, the Tafilalet’s ancient capital (which grew to over 100,000 residents).
After visiting your market (hopefully on one of the market days: Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday), we will go to Erfoud, where you will have the opportunity to visit the petrified marble production before proceeding to the Touroug and Tinjdad palm plantations.
The Todra Gorges, one of the High Atlas’ most powerful places, will be reached later. The Todra River’s channel has created a gorge with gigantic vertical cliffs of amazing beauty, making it a climber’s paradise and a one-of-a-kind location.
Lunch on-site, as well as a suggested hike to see and appreciate the Gorges. In the afternoon, we’ll travel to the Dades Valley, often known as the Valley of Figs because to its abundance of fig trees. We’ll stop at the » monkey legs » as we pass through Boumalne Dadés. At the hotel for dinner and the night.
We’ll take in one of the nicest vistas of the Dades Valley after a delicious breakfast. We’ll do it from one of the mountains’ most advantageous viewpoints. From there, we can see how many kasbahs there are, and how beautiful each one is.
We will arrive in Ouarzazate and see the kasbah of Taourirt, old residence of the Glaoui or Pasha of Marrakech, Film Studios and Museum of the Cinema if you are interested, after several stops to appreciate the way of the Thousand Kasbah, the Valley of Roses, and the enormous palm grove of Skoura.
Lunch will be served in the village, and in the afternoon, we will depart for Marrakech through the Tizi Ntichka mountain pass, with photo opportunities along the way.
We’ll leave the lunar landscape behind here, and the main green, ocher, and other colors will take their place. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening/night, dinner, and Riad lodging.
