On our 5-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we start with an early pick-up from your riad or the airport in Marrakech. Firstly, our trip will take us through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains. We will cross the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which is 2,260 meters high, and stop to enjoy the stunning views. Our first stop is Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site known for its old architecture and appearances in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After visiting the Kasbah, we will go to Ouarzazate, which is called the “Gateway to the Desert.” There, we will see the Taourirt Kasbah. We will enjoy a tasty dinner and stay overnight in a comfortable riad, preparing for the exciting day.
On the second day of our 5-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we will visit Atlas Studios. This place is known for being the filming location of many Hollywood movies. We will visit the Draa Valley, the longest river in Morocco. Along the way, we will see palm groves, traditional Kasbahs, and Berber villages. You will have many opportunities to take photos. After a relaxing lunch in Nkob or Alnif, we will continue our drive to the Merzouga Desert. We will ride camels on an exciting trip through the Sahara Desert when we arrive at the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes. We will stop at a dune to see a beautiful sunset. After that, we will go to our luxury desert camp. We will enjoy Berber music and a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars. We will stay overnight at the camp.
We recommend waking up early to see the beautiful sunrise over the golden dunes. After breakfast, we ride our camels back to Merzouga, where the driver awaits us. Today, we explore the desert life. We visit an ancient eyeliner mine, where people used to get black powder for makeup. Then, we meet nomadic families, share mint tea with them, and learn about their simple way of living. In Khamlia village, we listen to Gnaoua music, a special type of African drumming. After lunch, we walk through a palm grove, a peaceful place with green trees in the middle of the desert. We also stop by Flamingo Lake, where pink flamingos sometimes gather. After a long day of exploring, we enjoyed a nice dinner and slept in a comfortable hotel in Merzouga.
After breakfast, we will leave the Desert and head to Rissani, an old city with a famous market. It is one of the oldest markets in the world. Next, we will visit Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and marble. We will see how people turn ancient fossils into beautiful decorations. We will take you through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to the stunning Todra Gorges, known for its towering red cliffs ideal for rock climbing. After exploring the gorges, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant. We will continue our trip through Dades Valley to see the well-known “Monkey Fingers” rock formations and enjoy the view. We will stay the night in a charming riad.
On the last day, we will visit the Rose Valley in Kalaa Magouna, where people grow thousands of roses. There is a Rose Festival every May, where they make rose water, perfumes, and oils. Then, we visit Amridil Kasbah, a beautiful old fortress surrounded by palm trees in Skoura Oasis. Next, we will stop in Ouarzazate for lunch, then drive through the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, enjoying the beautiful mountains one last time. Finally, we reach Marrakech, where our 5-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga ends. We will drop you off at your riad or the airport.
