Then, spend 30 minutes in the Cedars Forest, where you might spot playful Barbary macaques. After a lunch break in Midelt, the tour continues through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass, with a short stop to take in the views of the Ziz Valley. We will pass through Errachidia on our way to Boumalne Dades. There, you will visit the unique ‘monkey fingers’ rock formations and enjoy a scenic lookout over the valley. Enjoy a stop at a viewpoint overlooking the dramatic rock formations of the gorges before continuing to the breathtaking Todra Gorges. These towering red cliffs provide a stunning backdrop for a leisurely walk or photo opportunities. We next take a drive through Touroug and Tinjdad’s palm groves. We will take a break for lunch along the way. By the afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, where you will switch to camels for a trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Witness a magical sunset before reaching your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars, accompanied by Berber music and drumming around the campfire. Stay overnight in a luxury desert camp in Merzouga.
We recommend waking up early to see the beautiful sunrise over the golden dunes. After breakfast, we ride our camels back to Merzouga, where the driver awaits us. Today, we explore desert life. We visit an ancient eyeliner mine, where people used to get black powder for makeup. Then, we meet nomadic families, share mint tea with them, and learn about their simple way of living. In Khamlia village, we listen to Gnaoua music, a special type of African drumming. After lunch, we walk through a palm grove, a peaceful oasis of green trees in the midst of the desert. We also stop by Flamingo Lake, where pink flamingos sometimes gather. After a long day of exploring, we enjoyed a nice dinner and slept in a comfortable hotel in Merzouga.
On the last day of your 4-day tour from Fes to the Merzouga desert, we will leave the desert after breakfast. Our first stop will be Rissani, a busy town with a traditional market that is most lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. From Rissani, we will continue to Erfoud to see a workshop that makes fossilized marble. The scenic drive then takes us along the Ziz River, where we will pause to take in the panoramic views of the valley. After enjoying lunch in Midelt, we will journey through the Cedars Forest and Ifrane before finally returning to Fes, where your tour will end with a drop-off at your accommodation or the airport.
